R. v. X.X. – 2025 – 6451
Allegation
X.X. was charged in Irricana, Alberta with domestic assault following a 911 call from a third party. The complainant alleged that a verbal dispute over finances escalated into physical violence. X.X. was accused of striking, biting, and pinning the complainant during the altercation. The allegations further included claims that X.X. prevented the complainant from calling for help and that the couple’s infant child was present in the home at the time.
Domestic assault charges are taken seriously in Alberta courts. Even a single count under section 266 of the Criminal Code can carry significant consequences, including the possibility of jail, mandatory programming, no-contact orders, and restrictions on future employment or travel. These risks increase where the allegations involve sustained violence or where children are nearby.
Result
Win. Charges withdrawn.
