This was a case of a significant amount of cocaine being seized from a residence in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The RCMP Alert Division commenced an investigation into a drug trafficking organization in Fort McMurray, Alberta following the receipt of a confidential informant tip. It was alleged that the organization used drug traffickers from other cities, who would come in on monthly shifts to traffic drugs.

The RCMP used mobile surveillance over the course of multiple weeks to track the comings and goings of the organization. The Fort McMurray RCMP observed members of the group making meetings of short duration consistent with drug trafficking. Ultimately, the investigation focused on X.X. who was observed on a number of occasions making short meetings with individuals who were known drug users.

After the RCMP gathered sufficient grounds, they sought a warrant to search a residence and vehicle. The police seized a substantial amount of current and over half a kilogram of cocaine. X.X. was arrested and charged with offences, that carry a potential sentence of life imprisonment.
