This file started as a result of an Operation targeting drug traffickers in Calgary bars. During the course of undercover operations at a popular downtown Calgary bar, the police obtained a cell phone number to purchase drugs from. The police contacted the phone number on a multitude of occasions and purchased drugs from a number of people.

Undercover operators in Calgary are good at what they do. In choosing which police officer is to act in the undercover role, the police take into consideration the officer’s appearance. An officer who looks more like a crack user will be assigned to purchase crack, and an officer that appears like a fentanyl user will be assigned to purchase fentanyl. The officers will also dress in the appropriate fashion for those types of users. In light of this, they are very difficult to detect.

Moreover, these cases are notoriously difficult to defend because of the concrete evidence that is secured. Frequently, these officers will wear surreptitiously positioned cameras that can take high-quality footage of the drug dealer.
