LETHBRIDGE – Two men accused in what Lethbridge Police are calling a record drug bust for our city, have been released on bail.
AH, aged 29, and DB, 27, were arrested on Saturday (Feb. 11), after a vehicle, which was allegedly returning from the British Columbia lower mainland, was stopped on Highway 3, just outside of Lethbridge. A search found four kilograms of cannabis resin inside a hidden compartment.
Search warrants were then conducted at four Lethbridge homes, located along the 200-block of Ryerson Road West, 200-block of Lasalle Terrace West, 0-block of Modesto Road West and 800-block of 11 Street North.
Police say various drugs with an estimated street value of $1.2-million were recovered from the homes, along with $120,000 in cash, four firearms and four vehicles. The drugs seized included ecstasy, cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, cannabis resin, psilocybin mushrooms, LSD and Xanax.
At Thursday’s (Feb. 16) bail hearing, Judge Jerry LeGrandeur stated that he did not see any risk to the community from the release of the two men, as they do not have a history of violence, and that any well-informed member of the public would not be concerned by the decision.
He subsequently released them on $10,000 cash, each, with conditions that they live with family members, abide by a curfew (with exceptions for work, medical emergencies or when they’re with their parents), report to police once a week, have no contact with each other or co-accused KR, and they can only have a cellphone for work purposes and police must be allowed to inspect it.
KR was released one day earlier on $1,000 bail, with slightly less restricting conditions.
All three faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime.
The case has been adjourned to March 16.
