R. v. X.X. – 2025 – 3751
Allegation:
X.X. was charged in Strathmore, Alberta with domestic assault and uttering threats, arising from a series of incidents said to have taken place over several months. The allegations included claims of physical violence and verbal intimidation during the course of a deteriorating marriage. According to the complainant, the pattern of abuse escalated over time.
The complaint was made shortly after divorce proceedings were initiated—a timing that is not uncommon in family law matters. While criminal and family proceedings are separate, it’s not unusual for allegations to surface during divorce, often under the belief that they may strengthen one party’s position in custody or property-related disputes. Regardless of timing, police laid charges and the matter was scheduled to proceed in Provincial Court.
Result:
Sean Fagan was retained to act on X.X.’s behalf. Charges withdrawn. No conviction was entered, and the prosecution was formally brought to an end. The outcome ensured that X.X. did not face the lasting consequences of a criminal record.
