Concealed Knife & Pepper-Spray (VCST Stop) — Charges Withdrawn

R. v. X.X. – 2025 – 0751

Allegation

X.X. was charged in Calgary with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The arrest occurred after members of the Calgary Police Service’s Violent Crime Suppression Team (VCST) initiated a high-risk traffic stop on a white Bentley SUV near 17th Avenue SW—a busy stretch of the Red Mile corridor. VCST is a specialized unit within the Organized Crime & Offender Management Section, tasked with intercepting suspected gang members and individuals believed to be involved in high-risk criminal activity.

Police alleged that X.X. and the vehicle’s passengers were uncooperative during the stop. According to officers, a small satchel was tossed into the back seat. Inside, they claimed to find a folding knife and multiple canisters of pepper spray. The Crown proceeded on the basis that the items were hidden, unlawfully possessed, and linked to organized criminal activity.
