Calgary Domestic Assault — Not Guilty at Trial

R. v. X.X. – 2025 – 5641

Allegation

X.X. was charged following a domestic incident that took place at a private residence in Calgary. The complainant alleged that an argument escalated when X.X. struck her in the face with a closed fist, causing her to fall backward. She further claimed that he forcefully pushed her toward the bathroom and continued to yell while she tried to shield herself. The complainant left the residence and contacted police shortly afterward. Officers observed minor injuries and arrested X.X. later that evening.

The case proceeded as a formal prosecution under section 266 of the Criminal Code. Domestic assault charges are treated with particular seriousness in Alberta courts. Convictions—even for first-time offenders—can result in criminal records, no-contact orders, weapons bans, and jail. The Crown refused to consider any resolution short of a guilty plea and insisted that the case proceed to trial.

Result

Not guilty verdicts at trial.
